Breaking The Habit (Not)

(Before that, this is fun. Taken from Didi)

The Rules:

#1 write down FIVE (5) weird habits
#2 pass this baton to 5 other people.
#3 list down their name and blog link.

Weird Habit No. 1

My diaperhood days are still very much to this day, a KL haze. You can't see much, but you know something's there. But one thing that remains very vivid is that I used to gather every piece of mail that I could scour from our small house in Kg. Subang and stuff it all down in my diaper. Why? Beats me. It seemed that the idea appealed as 'heroic' to me back then. Encik Posto: Si Pejuang Persuratan. Heh.

Weird Habit No. 2

When I was staying in Alor Star 17 years back, I could already switch between English and Bahasa pretty smooth without a single jerk. What's so weird about it? Here:

"Al teque de stond and al trrrouw ad yoou"
(I'll take the stone and I'll throw it at you)

That, was a result of hanging around Ravi and Auntie Sarala a bit too much. Complete with that head-neck jiggle that is so common and comical amongst Indians. Funny that eventhough I had other playmates like Cer Khai and Som Phong, I was never stuck in their Manglish lingo. Ibu was happy that I was bilingual at this age and she was too amused to even bother about my Tamil-inflicted accent. This went on for about a year or two before I could speak "properly".

Weird Habit No. 3

Ibu often regale the tale about me being a very inquisitive kid. The best of it all was when I used to yell out whatever was written on signboards and billboards whenever we went for an outing. At times it even went to the extent of shouting it out in baku (e.g. Paramount Pictures = Para-mow-un Peach-two-rest). Later on I realized that this was how my spelling and grammar instinct was honed.

Weird Habit No.4

I spent most of my school holidays at Mak's place in JB. Playing badminton every evening with Zaid & Bedah (neighbour-cum-family friend) was definitely a habit but what made it weird was, with the absence of badminton racquets, we played using potlids. The clings and clangs made the game ever the more exciting.

Weird Habit No. 5

When Arway Ayah was around, we used to go up to Mik's place almost twice every week. Other than looking forward to spending the hours with my cousins and if we get lucky, a night out with Dadas or Nanas, the first thing I would do when I'm there is to check out the top-right drawer of the antique display cabinet. See, being the kids we are, we never left home without our little action figures or Hot Wheels minis. Given the short span of attention we have back then, sometimes we got temporarily fixated on other things that we accidentally left our toys when we went home. Mik then would keep it for us until our next visit hence, the top-right drawer. Now, unlike my cousins, I never left my toys behind. So my only intention of checking out the drawer was that, I could play with whatever toy they left behind. It kinda became religious that I still subconsciously do it every now and then. Even when there's only old cups and saucers left in there. Old habits do die hard. Sheesh

This goes out to you, you, you, you dan kamu.
