Riddim
Ah. Jamming can be the best therapeutic thing ever.
Yesterday's session at D'Rhythmix (Mokh, why??) had 'anxiety rush' written all over. It kinda remenisce the old days when I was a newbie in this band thingamajigg. Every session is always looked forward too. Ah, how G-Sound is sorely missed.
Anyways, since starsucker & the wide-white band has its own Myspace page, I thought it's time to get busy and work on new songs. Since most of the members of the collective is away/busy and (possibly) experiencing commitment clashes, the rest of us are running out of juice. So back to the basics. Be creatively spontaneous.
Problem is though, being exposed to a wide array of genres can cause you to be surprisingly 'trapped' in a limited spectrum. Hours before heading to the studio, I came up with a typical basic riff in hope that it will evolve later on when Izzat and Adam give their inputs. But somehow it didn't work out. For the first 10 minutes, I was dead sure that yesterday's session was a total wreck. I almost gave up untill I accidently played a quarter bar of Silverchair's Spawn Again. I thought, "Hey, could be good". Turned out it was. A new song under our belt. It doesn't have a working title as of yet but we're working on it, You could say that we're ripp-offs and you couldn't say that we are. It's what the modern age claim to be as; innovation. It may sound like Spawn Again but underneath all the spine-crushing progressions, it's totally a different ball game. Adam's emo-inflicted bass line somehow fitted the song's mood in a quirky way. But hey, it worked. Now I know what Izzat is good at. Since there's 4 drummers in the collective, he'll be best filling in for alterna-metal-laden tunes. His instinct's quite acute. Oh, pity you for the 'death' of your drumstick, bro. It's about time to get a new pair by the way. Heh.
We came out of Studio B in high spirits. Nothing could ruin your day after a satisfactory session. Bumped into Usop and we had roti canai at Fawwaz along with Imran. Had a blast.
I'm mentally spent. Even writing this seems to be a workout. Rest easy.
