Drive: The Playlist Vol.7

Well, as diverse it maybe, this week's playlist theme (a first) is 'brooding'. 2 tracks from The Citizens Of Ice Cream (formerly known as Meng Shat), a prominent avant-garde/experimental band in the urban scene consisting of like-minded Chinese lads. There's something about them -Chinese in particular- when they set foor in the underground performing arena. They tend to dabble in progressive, obscure and poppish yet dream-like music. There's a lot of living , breathing proof to support my motion. We have Furniture (formerly known as R.U.S.H), the aforementioned The Citizens Of Ice Cream, Charlotte Dreams, Lang Mang and also the slow-burner and ever-evolving outfit, This Body Broken. I'll have to keep close tabs on these fellas. They might not be well-received in the circuit but they will surely have my cash. Worth the douugh.

Rundowns aside, to complimet the week's theme, I featured various tracks from Ours and Denali. The Mars Volta's bombast ballad The Widow also made the cut. It kinda reminds me of Gloomy Sunday. Since Chino Moreno's critically-acclaimed side-project Team Sleep is out with their debut album soon, I though having a head start would be best. The Passportal was taken from either one of the soundtracks off The Matrix trilogy. Very heavy electronica stuff. Perhaps an ode to U.N.K.L.E's Cellestial Annihilation. And finally, I've decided on my favourite track from Love Me Butch's latest long play. Some say that Pitcher Of A Ghost sounds Glassjaw-ish but it's Love Me Butch through and through. The highlight of the song is definitely during every chorus where Sha (guest vocalist and Syarul's girlfriend) belted out her sweet harmonics to compliment Syarul's singing. Overall, the song's guitar works is astounding. Wing Meng even lashed out machine gun-like riffage that'll put your heart on life support for catching up with it's ferocity. He proved yet again why he is such a gifted guitarist.

Ok then, untill the next Drive, enjoy.
